Parent Consultation

Parent consultations are personalized to your family and your unique child. I will provide you with the space and information to better understand your child's behavior. Positive parenting strategies and emphasizing the differential responses you give your child when they are engaging in desired behaviors versus disruptive behaviors will be taught and practiced with you, alongside other effective behavioral approaches. Often times, I use these strategies to assist parents in problem solving difficulties with typical developmental milestones, such as toilet training, sleeping, eating, social skills, emotional understanding and coping. Ultimately, parent consultations will equip you with the tools needed to support  your child's development and well-being, while balancing your own well-being and healthy family relationships.

Mother and Child

What to Expect

During parent consultation meetings we will identify challenging areas in your role as a parent. We will create a plan to work towards increasing your confidence in your ability to manage your child's difficult behaviors. As we work together, we will problem solve everyday challenges that arise and create plans that you can implement even after we stop meeting.

My Approach

When I start working with parents, I think it is really important we clearly identify and define the problems you are facing with your child. Once we have a clear idea about the struggles, we will incorporate the use of functional behavioral analysis to determine what may be maintaining or increasing the maladaptive behaviors. Then we create a clear step by step plan for how to address the challenging behaviors and utlimiately decrease them. I will expect that you will implement strategies we discuss in between sessions so that when needed, we can problem solve barriers and refine strategies to meet the needs of your family.

Frequency & Duration

I typically meet with parents for 45 minutes weekly for parent consultation.

The duration of parent consultation really depends on the amount and severity of your child's disruptive behaviors. The frequency and duration of parent consultation meetings can be tailored to meet the needs of your family and busy life.
