Kid Playing with Wooden Toys

Virtual PCIT - Is it effective?

Yes. PCIT can be effectively delivered through secure telehealth platforms. Families set up a small, quiet space at home, and I coach caregivers live through video to ensure the same level of support and success.

PCIT at home: Getting ready
Tips for Telehealth PCIT setup

Equipment Needed

-Device for video (laptop, tablet, desktop)

-Fully charged cell phone

-Headphones (when possible remove noise cancelling features)

-Toys

Toy Choices

-Choose 3-5 toys to make available to your child

-Avoid toys that encourage rough play (such as, bat and balls or action figures)

-Creative and construction types of toys are best

Environmental Tips

-Disable wi-fi on all devices except for your video device

-Keep only one earbud in so your child still experiences you as engaged

-Keep the video device within 5 feet of you and your child

-Remove other distractions (turn off tv, disable phone notifications, etc.)

The Set-Up

  • I will observe you and your child through a video device (laptop, tablet)

  • I will turn my microphone and camera off to eliminate distractions for you and your child

  • I will coach you through your headphones, which will be connected to a phone call between us

  • We will return to communicating on the video call for check-ins and check-outs
