Selective Mutism Parent Group

Parents play a vital role in helping children develop and make changes, especially around challenges that come along with Selective Mutism (SM). My group is designed for parents/caregivers of children (of any age) with suspected or diagnosed SM. Whether your child is refusing to speak anywhere or is only struggling at recess, this group will give you the knowledge and skills to help your child. We will discuss specific strategies for increasing target behaviors through reinforcement and problem-solve situations in which your child gets "stuck" or "freezes." My goal is to help you develop the skills needed to set your child up for success in all areas of their lives.

These group sessions will teach you how to effectively guide your child's verbal practices in real life situations. Each group session will focus on a specific skill (see schedule below) that we practice together. The small group setting will also allow for parents to make meaningful connections with other families who understand and experience similar challenges.

*It is not required that both parents/caregivers attend, but it is encouraged and a discount will be provided for additional caregivers from the same family.

Who should join?

This group will be held virtually, and thus available to anyone residing within California. The group will have a limited number of spaces to allow for each parent to share their experiences and ask questions relevant to their specific child as needed.  Caregivers of children with with SM of all ages are welcome to join.

Group Dates & Location

The group will meet weekly for 6 weeks. The dates/times of the group are TBD dependent on the availability of enrolled caregivers.
